Dear Loyal Readers,
In a few weeks, I will be teaching a two-night class on how to write your online dating profile at a local adult and community education program. Sure, I’ve been participating in online dating on-and-off for 15 years, but I’m only one person. I need your help. If you’re an online dater – or have been in the past – or know someone who is – would you offer me your advice that I can share with my students?
What grabs your attention in a profile?
What gets you to respond to a message when someone writes to you?
What makes you go “yuck!” when you see a profile?
Feel free to post your answers in the comments or email me at joannaonlinedating (a) gmail.com. You can also tweet to me at @singlesassyblog. Basically, any type of communication will do.
Thanks,
Your Sassy & Single Friend,
Joanna
Hi there. My current advice to online dating is “Run Like the Wind” (Don’t Do It!!). Maybe you can write a blog from the perspective of what NOT to do… 🙂
Isn’t that why I’m still single? 🙂
Starting with “oh I don’t know what to write here” is always a bad start! Something light hearted, funny and clever will grab my attention. Anything ‘poor me’ and I click to the next profile, like ” oh I don’t know why I’m even on here, every one is horrible, no one replies, you are all bitches just like my ex-girlfriend’
Ha, that’s great! My favorite was the guy who mentioned he had done something really bad in his profile. Of course I had to ask him what he had done – he told me he had gotten arrested for drunk driving and no longer had his license!
First and foremost, a profile photo will surely catch my attention. We all knew that we need to show our true selves in all our posted photos. About your question on what makes me annoyed in a profile are those people who post nude pictures of themselves. Just be honest and be friendly to all users. Be frank about what you feel to those people who you converse with. You do not need to hide your true feelings, emotions, as well as thoughts.
Great ideas!
I think you have to remember that a clever picture really matters. That’s the ‘thing’ that will be displayed all over the dating site – not just on your profile.
Spend some time picking the right picture – then work on your profile.
Can’t wait to hear how it goes
Great point, SW!
